Does the Schmidt appraise works of art?
Schmidt Art Center staff is prohibited from appraising or authenticating works of art. Appraisals and authentication should be carried out by a certified appraiser or a reputable auction house.
You may wish to find an appraiser to determine the value of your artwork. Appraisers are trained specialists who work for a fee. They evaluate your piece and give you a written statement of its value. Please refer to one of the following organizations to seek an appraiser for your work:
American Society of Appraisers: appraisers.org
Appraisers Association of America: appraisersassociaton.org
International Society of Appraisers: isa-appraisers.org
If you’re interested in researching on your own, the St. Louis Art Museum’s Richardson Memorial Library has many resources to get you started: slam.org/education/library
Please do not bring in artwork for review.
