Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS)
Become a registered sonographer!
The 开云电竞 Sonography program prepares students with the skills necessary to become a registered sonographer, prepared to work in a variety of clinical settings including hospital or privately-owned facilities.
Sonographers are trained professionals in diagnostic imaging equipment to assist healthcare professionals to make accurate diagnoses and treatment options.
Registered sonographers are skilled in operating imaging equipment, reviewing normal and abnormal images and preparing patients for various medical procedures following review of the patient’s medical records.
- Three-semester certificate
- Starts: Fall semester
- Apply September 1st for following Fall semester
- To enroll, students must have an Associate/Bachelors in Applied Science in a healthcare related field or an Associate in Science received from a two-year allied health program that is patient-care related and required clinical education

Applications for Fall 2024 are accepted Sept. 1, 2023 – Feb. 1, 2024.
Students must apply and be formally accepted into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program prior to enrolling in any DMS courses.
Entrance into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is highly competitive.

- From the drop-down bar, select the program you wish to apply for. Active and upcoming applications will be listed after clicking the appropriate program.
- Select “Apply Now” for the cohort you wish to apply for.
- Complete the application by following the steps as indicated

Program Capacity
Belleville Campus
The Sonography program has the capacity for approximately 20 students admitted each fall at the Belleville Campus.
Seats available are dependent on meeting application requirements and on clinical availability.
Time Commitment
Diagnostic Medical Sonography courses are offered full-time during the day. The program can be completed in 12 months.
Certification Requirements
Upon successful completion of the Sonography curriculum, graduates are awarded a certificate as a sonographer.
Graduates of the sonography curriculum are eligible to take the certification examination by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Illinois sonography employers prefer professional certification by the ARDMS for students to gain employment as a sonographer.
